About iUnEarthed
My name is Christopher Dawson and I scan through millions of square miles of real open source and fair use satellite photography to make my pieces; photos taken from photos that are staged/cropped/presented to look like modern art paintings
I create abstract satellite photography.
My STORY
My work is all about looking at the world in a different way.
In an age where the vastness of the Earth can be captured from unimaginable heights, my abstract photography seeks to explore the intricate patterns and textures that define our planet. When seen from space, markings that aren’t discernible on the surface leap into prominence. The math that shapes the universe shows itself in a variety of mediums and links the enormous with the intricately small. The algorithms that determine the branching of the smallest tree are also seen in the flow of vast continental water sources; patterns in dying salt flats emulate the galactic birthplace of stars.
Nature & Technology
Through abstraction I aim to transcend geographical boundaries, creating a dialogue between nature and technology
My pieces are created to ask questions of their origin and to provide avenues to the designs that surround us but are often invisible. The interplay of light, shadow and color in these images reflects the many dynamic forces at work on and within our sphere, inviting contemplation on the delicate balance of life.
Perspective & Composition
Within the pieces themselves
I play with perspective and composition to give the look of rustic faux landscapes, to duplicate the feel of modern geometric paintings or to provide a facsimile of pure abstract work. But to be plain, these are all real pictures of the real world. This is the Joy of What Is. And what might not have ever been previously witnessed.
